The Happy Lawyer - How to Gain More Satisfaction, Suffer Less Stress, and Enjoy Higher Earnings

เขียนโดย montana | 04:43

The Happy Lawyer bears the tag line, "How to gain more satisfaction, suffer less stress, and enjoy higher earnings in your law practice." Who doesn't want that? The book is a quick 188-page read, full of exercises to help clarify the practice and the clients that will allow you to create a satisfying practice. It then continues with suggestions on how to create that practice once you've identified it, how to attract the clients who will appreciate your efforts, and how to engage in a happy practice. The bottom line is not terribly surprising, though I like the way it's presented: to be a happy lawyer, figure out what you like about practice and then find ways to get more of that.

Schreiter identifies several key concepts, such as:
- Finding the "Seeds of Satisfaction" (what's right in your practice?)

- Identifying "YES! Clients" (what kinds of clients do you enjoy representing?)

- Claiming an "Arena of Preeminence" (in what areas of practice are you or would you like to be an expert?)

- Creating a plan to regain control of your practice (define and develop your ideal work/life balance and financial outcome, then determine how to get there)

- Attracting a sufficient number of "YES! Clients"

- Building trust with clients by using "Breakthrough Communications" (delivering exceptional client service based upon excellent client communications skills)

The benefit of Schreiter's approach is that he identifies in broad strokes what a lawyer must have to be a happy lawyer, and he then offers a path to personalizing those broad desires for each reader. Since every lawyer will find different parts of practice satisfying, different kinds of clients fulfilling, and different areas of expertise appealing, there are no shortcuts to the answers.

The exercises are the backbone of the book: there's little point in purchasing this book unless you intend to complete them. If you've ever considered coaching to support your developing a satisfying practice, this book is a nice middle ground. And if you've purchased this or a similar book and not done the exercises (which are important but not urgent, to use the prioritization framework I describe in 5 Foundations of Time Mastery for Attorneys), you might consider engaging a coach to help provide accountability and reflection so you can get to your answers.

For those of you who are beginning to work on business development, the questions Schreiter asks are foundational to knowing how to market yourself. Though The Happy Lawyer is not designed to teach rainmaking skills, it's worth noting that "happy lawyers" (as Schreiter describes them) are likely to be better rainmakers. That's primarily because knowing what kinds of clients you'd like to represent in what kinds of matters defines who your targets are. A secondary factor is that "happy lawyers" who apply Schreiter's approach to client communications are likely to deliver high-quality legal services and thus to get repeat and referral business.

In summary, if you're just beginning your practice or if your practice is beginning to feel stale, Schreiter presents ideas that will likely help, if you do the necessary work. Those who attended the teleclass that Monica Parker and I recently offered, Should I Stay [in Law] or Should I Go? will find many echoes in The Happy Lawyer. While The Happy Lawyer doesn't offer a cure-all solution (nor would such a solution be credible), it does offer a valid approach to developing or reengineering a practice.

Law School & GPA - They Say It's Not Everything, But it Ranks in the Top 2

เขียนโดย montana | 10:14

Generally, law school GPA requirements are stringent. It is possible to have a GPA of 2.98 and still get into one of the top 100 law schools in the nation, but your LSAT better be above 160.

The practice of law is a difficult road as a profession. Your competition in every case will be someone as bright as or smarter than you are. How you deal with this and give your clients the best possible representation is imperative to your success as a lawyer.

For those individuals that have chosen to practice criminal law, lives literally will hang in the balance of your competence when you present your case. The skills you honed while in college will be beneficial in your career as a lawyer. This includes your study habits and the discipline to always do your best. By going the extra mile when researching a subject, your clients will reap the benefits.

The better you can handle a difficult situation, the more success and money you will have. It all starts with your school grades. By instilling the strict discipline to never accept just "ok" work and continuing to strive for perfection, you GPA will be constantly at the top of the class.

While it is difficult to obtain a 4.00 GPA, a 3.95 can be achieved with relative ease. This is obtained by only having two B's or 3.00 grades in only two subjects in the matter of a 160 total credit hours worth of work. A 3.90 is with four B's. This is why it is so important to do well in your first years of college. By the time you are a junior and senior, you may have no control over receiving a B grade.

Do not restrict your chances by having a low law school GPA entrance number because you were not serious in your first years in college.

The Effect of Good Solved Math Problems in Education

เขียนโดย montana | 05:39

There are probably an infinite number of mathematical problems. When I study mathematics in elementary school or high school, you have no idea of the great world of mathematics, the levels existing at the undergraduate and postgraduate. Moreover, if the level is the study of elementary mathematics, its sometimes difficult to establish a relationship between the seemingly trivial mathematical problems, and the maximum power, mathematics to solve problems in real life.

Think of Medicine, for example. Students who started fromlike you and me, knowing the square roots and fractions in elementary school and junior high schools must answer to the math health problems ended as polio and tetanus. Turning to health problems in mathematical problems, collect data and transformed it into numbers, public health workers and epidemiologists discovered what causes these diseases. Then they solved the math problems and understand how to get rid of the disease.

Without further elements at the topsubtraction, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics, this could not have happened. Mastery of finding solutions to math problems allowed scientists to solve health problems and relieve human suffering. By performing statistical analysis of the numbers, they developed vaccines for these problems. All of this would be impossible without math.

At the college level, students usually see those seemingly meaningless math problems, like how much bread Joe can carry if his bicycle has a Basketball, which is 1 foot by 1 foot, they become real problems. If you study the social sciences, do research on mathematics. When they get to graduate, the statistical part of the problems is that mathematics is often performed with SPSS. However, the student must understand what the data tell / her and knows how to work in the program in order for their input.

Improve your home is another area where you will encounter mathematical problems. If one or more repaintingwalls, you have to figure out many issues. Though this may seem pretty simple, you still have to know how to add, multiply, divide, subtract, and do basic algebra. Its for this reason that everyone in the United States is required to achieve at least a basic competency in math. People who study education are aware that all aspects of our daily lives involve math in many ways.

For a lot of people the simple words "math problems" always go together and seem like a negative thing. We think the "word problem" as something you want to delete. It would be better if we do, rather than as "mathematical puzzle. Do not invite more? Math Puzzles would be something fun, playful or exciting.Problem be a negative connotation, while the sounds mysterious puzzles and exciting, something you simply want to immerse themselves in the only to find out how to do together. And what is math.

If we have problems in mathematics, we take the different pieces of the puzzle, different concepts, and wetogether. That is the mystery part and provides the frame for the puzzle. In real life we always have some elements of the puzzle, like the speed of a vehicle and how far the vehicle is going to go. That's the information that we have to put together with the concepts. We can put the concepts together with the information and that's how we complete the puzzle. This is what math problems really are.

What Do You Need For Admissions to Law School?

เขียนโดย montana | 11:29

There are essentials for everything in life and law school is no different. What do you need for admissions to law school? Certain law schools have certain expectations that they want from potential students per se. But even though there are differences most law school programs have general admissions requirements. What the potential student needs to do is take this into consideration and address whatever these admissions requirements are first and foremost before doing anything else.

These common admissions requirements are and can include:

- A letter or letters of recommendation

- Your Undergraduate GPA

- Detailed LSAT Scores

- A personal statement that is powerful in delivery and has defining purpose

What you majored in during your college years isn't what catches a law school's eye per se. More so it is the diversity with which you followed your course of study as a rule. Many law schools always tend to learn more towards the student who truly has a genuine love for learning and this is what shows itself strongly in their chosen courses of study and the grades achieved as a result of the educational choices made. The more challenging your courses are the more it will open doors for you all around. As it shows you truly do have a high regard for the learning process. No matter how difficult or rigorous it may prove to be. Chosen courses should only be things that interest students greatly as opposed to just something that they want to take. Because true effort shows itself in those who passionate about what they're studying and the place it is displayed most is in one's grades.

The thing to remember most is that trying to get into a law school can prove to be way competitive. This is just the way it is with law school entrance it seems. Therefore by being made aware of what's what ahead of time. You won't feel let down should you need be accepted for whatever reason. But always know there is a chance that you will be welcome as a student. It's just good to be aware of the facts and this is part of the reality is all. Knowledge is power. No one can deny that. So knowing what is abundantly clear makes a big difference.

What are the things that law schools take into account most when considering a student for admissions to law school? The two most important items of criteria which strongly influence admission decision is outstanding LSAT scores and a GPA to match too.

No matter how many applications you do put in at various law schools. Do make sure to make copies of each and every one of them. Also closely follow the application rules to a letter as best you can. Make your application a presentation that is way professional in appearance.

Again & Again Werth Proves His Worth to the Dodgers

เขียนโดย montana | 20:04

Jason Werth of the Phillies stole his way around the base paths last night, scoring one of the game winning runs against the Dodgers.

I want to get this right, for the record.

Werth was with the Dodgers a couple of seasons ago, correct? And they traded this guy, a young player with an entire career ahead of him.

And the same Jason Werth is the fellow that plagued the Dodgers in the League Championship series of 2008, sending the boys in blue packing for the year.

In how many ways and how many times can one ballplayer exact his revenge?

Though I cheer for the Dodgers, I'm also pulling for this guy. There are few things in sports and in life that thrill me as much as being underrated and dramatically, consistently, and expensively proving critics to be wrong.

I'm getting vicarious thrills as I observe Mr. Werth proving and re-proving his worth to the Dodgers.

I wonder if the Blue Crew learned any lessons from having dealt the wrong guy at the wrong time. Maybe, they have.

They're taking their youth movement very seriously, looking to Ethier, Martin, Loney, and Kemp to carry the day, and to create a long-term winning dynasty. When you compare their minimal salaries against those of achy-breaky veterans, they do come through as bargains and great bets, certainly over the long haul.

Maybe, it's a win-win situation. Werth was traded to a National League champion, and the Dodgers may have figured out how valuable up and coming stars can be.

We'll see.

In the meantime, if the Dodgers missed the lesson, it's going to present itself again when they replay the Phillies, for what that's Werth.

The Foreclosure Survival Guide - Keep Your House Or Walk Away With Money in Your Pocket

เขียนโดย montana | 12:34

"The Foreclosure Survival Guide: Keep Your House Or Walk Away With Money In Your Pocket" by Attorney Stephen Elias, Author of "How to File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy" is if nothing else, very timely. Unfortunately so, the rise in foreclosures this past year makes a book like this most welcome for many people going through foreclosure, or for those that the dreaded fear of foreclosure looms overhead.

In these uncertain times, with more foreclosures than ever before, a book like this will be very helpful to many people. If you have received a formal foreclosure notice, or are being threatened with foreclosure, this book will guide you through the process and your options. If you just want to know more about foreclosures, this is a very easy primer on the topic.

While the book is written by an attorney, it is written for the layperson to easily understand foreclosures and options. It starts out with an overview of what to expect and then proceeds into the nuts and bolts of foreclosures.

From there, the book discusses emotional aspects of having your house foreclosed upon, and if it makes sense to attempt to keep your house or not. There is a chapter on negotiating a workout, and chapters on how Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies can delay or stop your foreclosure. Elias includes a chapter on fighting foreclosures in court, and what you can do when you decide to let the foreclosure proceed and leave your home. There is even a short chapter on how long you can stay in your house for free. As the title of this book suggests, it is for the home owner who is facing foreclosure, not the bank. It is suggested that the money you save by being in your house for free can be the start money you need to find another home.

There are a number of pages of resources that may help those during foreclosures or before. It is also good that Elias points out some of the scams that go on and how certain "foreclosure rescue" companies are just looking to scam you and take the little money you have.

The book concludes with a decent glossary of terms related to foreclosures and a brief description of each of the 50 State's laws on foreclosures. This short summary of laws is enough to get the reader pointed in the right direction when researching the laws that govern the foreclosed property.

If you know nothing about foreclosures and want to for whatever reason; you want the information, you may be facing a foreclosure in the near future, or you are facing one now, this book is a great primer on the topic. While I don't practice in the areas of foreclosure or bankruptcy, this book provided me with additional information for those calls I sometimes field from people that need more information regarding these issues.

I just wish there weren't so many people that need this book.
